This page is to be a collection of name plates from organs. Our first two name plates are from a Wurlitzer "Unit Orchestra" and a Wurlitzer Church Organ scanned and sent in by Philip and Diane Underwood .

John Abson, Technical Officer of the Cinema Organ Society UK, send this directly-scanned image of a standard plate fitted by the John Compton Organ company (a famous UK builder of theatre and classcial organs in the first half of the 20th century, as you may well know).

The actual dimensions are 9 inches by 6 inches, the backing material 1/8" bronze plate, and the lettering ivory coloured enamel let into engraved relief. The plate is therefore substantial and a noticeable feature of Compton consoles, being fitted with 4 raised-head screws to the treble side of the horseshoe roughly between the 'one o'clock' and the 'two o'clock' positions. When polished up, these plates look very fine indeed. Compton fitted these to some of their later electronic organs as well as their pipe organs.

Kenneth W. Fedorick, Staff Organist of the Plaza Theatre Wurlitzer in Las Cruces, NM sent us this interesting nameplate. "My parents, who lived in SE Pennsylvania found the plaque at a flea market about 20 years ago. it is 6" square, solid 1/16" copper. The background is blue enamel. All of the pipes, letters, symbols and border are raised. The spots on the right side are pits. The writing in the middle of the Pennsylvania outline says "Crum Lynne PA". A small star is in the SE corner of the state marking the town location."

Peter Rushton of the United Kingdom wrote in beaming about his New Allen GW319 and supplied us with photos of the plates attached to it. We have more pictures of the Allen in the UK at http://theatreorgans.com/uk/GW319/.

One sees shades of the original Wurlitzer plate doesn't one?

phaskell@ndsys.com submitted this nameplate from a small open frame electric motor. Family information suggests that it came from a reed organ, but I have no definate word on that. The motor still runs well.
